all my reels are penns but like ive been telling everyone ima make a change. ima buy avet 80 wides from now, 1st reason the light weight 2nd reason better drag 3rd reason easyer to find parts 4th reason it has 2 speed after a long night ur all beat up cause of the yaking and fighting sharks now u have 2 rods that havent got hit so that means u got to drag 2 big rocks with ur bait, thats a bad deal

i only have one reel thats 2 speed and its my TLD 50, this is the reel i use for small baits. onces i get hit its easyer to set the hook and when the shark is running towards u its alot faster than the senators

Your chang to Avets have anything to do with the fact that you keep winning them

I have 14/0 12/0 and an 80W. Trading the 14/0 for another 80. Only problem is the cost of braid, but that's a one time purchase that can last a long time if fished right.

I have several different brands of reels..I have several spinning reels either quantum or shimano brand mostly 4000 class and they all are great..once summer gets here my spin reels take a good beating from big snooks, some of my spin gear is even recommended for freshwater only but hold up great in the salt as well. I own 2 penn reels, an old school 12/0 and an old school 209 which I took the levelwinder off they are great reels and built to last they will take whatever punishment I throw at em. I also own a shimano tld 25 and an avet lx..these 2 reels in particular have been beaten to hell for the past year and a half catching fish way bigger than they were made for and doing it well. I have never had em serviced I do the work on em myself because they have not needed any major repairs these reels are made with durable parts and I break em down every couple months to clean em out, but there is little to no junk inside em the sand and the salt stays out for the most part. I don't have a preference, just give me something that is well made, if it is well made and you take care of it you get your money's worth. I like to spray or wipe my reels and rods down with lube every couple trips it makes em nice and shiny  and makes cleaning em easier, it beads up the saltwater and keeps it off the reel, and also protects your reel and rod from the sun.

My question is to all those who own Avets, how tough are they when sand penetrates? What are your experience with that???

I have fished Avet reels for 10 years now I fish the sand a lot and I never wash my reels, once a year in the winter I'll take them apart and clean them, they still work like new. they hold up better than everyone thinks.
